Luck of The Draw

The thief was nimble and silent and very fast as he moved from shadow to shadow and alley to alley. He took only long enough pauses in his actions to view his surroundings better, checking for any sign of onlookers or witnesses. This particular thief was very cautious indeed and for a very good reason. He was working his way steadily up the DeathCard guild ladder, doing everything in his power to rise to the status of an Assassin.

This was what had given Luven Lightfingers his reason for accepting such a dangerous quest and was subsequently the cause for him being in such a Gods' forsaken place as Niflheim on a cloudless night when the moon was full and shining brightly enough for him to be at risk of exposure and capture. Twice already he had fought a pair of ghostly Ludes that seemed bent on nothing more than causing him grief. They would come at him with their shrill keening and swoop around just out of reach of his twin daggers. As soon as he would strike out at one or both of them they would flit away faster than the blink of an eye.

As he crouched there within the darkened alley, cloaked in shadow he checked his location. The small animal crouched upon his shoulder this whole time purred warmly and snuggled its jet black head in under his chin. Its whiskers tickled his neck.

"Twitch," Luven whispered to the Wild Rose which was his pet and only true friend in all of Rune-Midgard. "Settle down, girl... If you want to get that new red, tail ribbon you had your eye on back in Morocc, I suggest you get ready to play your part in this little quest! We were sent here to steal Lord Bruticus's Ginnungagap. Once we have it we must pay a visit to the witch called Nonagamin and let her have it... By that I mean we must kill her with it. "

" Now get back up there where you belong and lend me your eyes!", he whispered. The feline creature acknowledged the command with a meow of disdain but did as she was told and nimbly climbed atop Luven's head where she flopped herself down within the familiar, wild nest of Luven's red hair, black legs and long tail running down his neck and front claws secured on the diver's goggles Luven always wore.

Once he felt the Wild Rose secure her position Luven reached up and pulled the lenses down and over his eyes. As soon as they were in place his vision changed. The magical connection between he and Twitch began to do its work and all around him, wherever he cast his gaze everything became crystal clear to his sense of sight. It was as if he were viewing things in broad daylight instead of struggling to see by the pale light of the full moon alone.

Smiling to himself Luven draws his twin Main Gauche from their sheaths and nods as they glint in the moonlight. These weapons had been with him for so long that he had given them names. The one in his right hand he called Blink Heartseeker. The one he carried in his left hand he had named Follower. Yes, indeed. These two deadly weapons were the favorites of his arsenal.

"Now Twitch, show me where this big bastard is keeping himself." It takes her a few minutes of sniffing about and testing the air with her tongue but her senses are more than very acute, they are dead on perfect...

With a swift yet gentle tug on his hair, to the right side of his scalp the Wild Rose indicated which direction he needed to look... South. That taken care of Luven moved with renewed haste out of the alley and proceeded to move from building cast shadows, one to the next until a quick jab of claws to his head and a faint warning hiss issued from Twitch...

Wrinkling his nose in disgust Luven comes to a halt in front of a huge wooden building and sighs. "So this is where we find the legendary bloody murderer, Lord Bruticus? A flippin' Peco Peco coop-stable!"

Cautiously the thief returns his daggers to their sheaths and goes to work. His first task, check the front double doors of the public coop to see if he can gain access through one of them. He knows that with a large number of the riding birds housed within he has to be as silent as a church mouse.

Placing his hand upon one of the wooden, stable-coop doors Luven steadies his nerves. With a gentle and very slow push he can feel that there is no resistance, therefore the door was not secured from the inside. Seeing that this was the case Luven opens the door a bit and chanced a glance inside...

What he sees inside makes him want to wretch! But again he has his mind set to the task at hand. Yes, there he was... The fiend he must wrest the dagger from. The brute was engrossed in a fest of bloody Peco entrails and as his eyes took in the interior of the coop he could tell that Bruticus had been at it for a while. There was not a single riding bird alive. During his visual scan he noted that there was an open window directly behind his target, he also took note of the fact the the creature's dagger was rammed home in a wooden support column not very far away from the window. And with that knowledge a plan of sorts came to him.

Luck of The Draw

Cautiously, Luven pulls the door closed and moves away from the coop-stable entrance. He and his feline companion make their way around to the rear of the structure keeping close to the walls in order to maintain the coverage of shadow...

Coming to a halt directly below the open window at the rear of the coop-stable Luven reaches up and pulls Twitch from atop his head. Giving her a few whispered instructions Luven stands and dumps her through the window.

Giving her a few moments to do as he had requested, Luven returns to the front of the building and partially opens one of the entrance doors a bit so he can look in through the crack to see what is going on inside. His keened-eyed gaze instantly falls on Twitch just as she makes her silent leap at the bloody murderer's dagger. The brutish beast takes no notice of this action as with his back to Twitch he continues with his gory feast.

Luven sees that Twitch's first attempt merely loosened the large dagger a bit in the wooden support column. On her next leap her front paws caught the weapon and it dropped to the straw covered floor with a dull thud which Bruticus failed to hear over the loud crunching of Peco Peco bones, as the fiend was now sucking marrow in a most grizzly manor. As Luven began to prepare for the fight to come he saw that Twitch had stepped upon the creature's dagger and that it had disappeared from sight.

Drawing a deep breath Luven kicks the door open... "Hey, Stinkfingers! I've got something for you!!!", Luven shouts as he launches Blink Heartseeker. As the dagger streaks towards the bloody murderer it begins to flash in and out of sight, heading unerringly towards the creature as it is rising to face the one who has intruded upon its meal.

The Main Gauche is magically drawn to its target's heart and as it moves it strobes from visible to invisible. Once it hits its intended target Luven's remaining weapon, Follower, does what it is enchanted to do and flies from Luven's hand without having to be thrown, making a beeline along the same path as the first dagger. Just as it buries itself to the hilt in Lord Bruticus's chest Twitch jumps upon the staggering creature's head and begins to rake and claw its eyes!

Even though the fiend is mortally wounded it still finds the strength to make a lunging attack on the thief who is now unarmed. Taking the advantage of its confusion and pain, Luven does a tumbling backwards roll, coming up on his feet just outside the stable-coop's twin doors which had sprung open with the impact of his rolling body. "RECALL!", the professionally trained thief shouts as he whirls back to view the interior of the stable. A faint, double popping sound could be heard and then both daggers were magically in Luven's hands again! Blink Heart Seeker in his right hand, Follower in his left.
